It’s the day – the very day of the Halloween Party. I hurried home from work, because I knew this costume might require some time.
I have been Worning on details for days – but to be honest found the inspiration to the make up on the way home in the train.
I decided to go with purple and green makeup and spiderwebs painted to each side of the eyes. The details could have been better – but I was not prepared to use liquid eyeliner that day.
The dress was dressed up with a big elastic belt – with spiders hanging from it – and I had cut up some spiderweb stockings for gloves. Along with adding extra spiders to my hat.
Deeply inspired by pins on Pinterest I decided to give this sweet autumn idea a go. First of I gathered all of the materials – on my floor – where I really happen to work best.
I cut up the knitted vest that I found in a thrift shop nearby by the measurements of the glass.
Since knitted fabric don’t really appreciate being cut up, I did some stitches to make it all keep whole… Before sewing it all together at the back.
Went to the autumn forest to find the perfect leaf. Many great candidates, some fresh air and a great forest walk with my friend later, I returned home to finalize my project with the knit candle with an autumn leaf.
And then same evening when darkness came, I lit it up.
I have been using this wine case for a while for storing different kind of stuff. But then my kitchen got in desperately need of a book case, and I happen to walk pass the wine case.
Here is what I did:
First thing, I removed the handle and the lid.
Then I gave it a light bit of paint – working it into the wood so that it had a see-through old-style effect.
Once the paint dried up, I drilled four holes in the back.
Four holes in the wall later, I could finally move in my cooking books in the new bookcase in the kitchen.
Surrounded by the ‘buy and throw away generation my first reaction when my sheepskin was getting dirty and used – ‘Buy a new’.
But then I stopped myself – googled washing a lamb wool – and of course it was possible.
I washed it with special soap for wool and silk and on the most gentle washing program. It hang out to dry for hours – and the I slowly started to brush it through with a hair brush.
It worked out allright – however something more was needed. It was still a curled sheep So I bought a narrow dressing brush, put on some music and had a go… See the difference?
Found this lovely scarf in our local thrift shop.. Actually I meant to use it as a scarf.. But somehow I got it wrapped around a cushion, and it was destiny.
Here is what I did:
Find a scarf you like and a cushion
Either measure the cushion and the fabric – or do it the lazy way as I did – fold the fabric beside the cushion
Sew the sides together either by hand or sewing machine.. Leaving a open hole to insert the cushion.
Stitch the hole together. This I did by hand along with making the final adjustments to it.
Instead of another cushion I wanted to challenge myself a bit more.. So I cut up two square pieces of the body for a knitted hat – and the two arms for mittens. After sewing the 3 sides of the hat together – it still needed a few adjustments by hand – before I was satisfied. The mittens were much easier.
This Friday I got a knitted cardigan from my friend. I loved the fabric and colors – yet the style was all wrong for me.
So I got her permission to do whatever I wanted with it. I had been looking for new cushions to my bedroom cover – and this knitted fabric was perfect. Didn’t measure before sewing – just took it as it came – after all it’s a square piece.
I wanted to do two cushions – but then my creativity got the better of me -you’ll see that in the following post.
